Every generation has its first job. For a lot of Gen Z, the first money they make online now comes from clipping: cutting the best moments out of streams, shows, podcasts and events, posting them on their own pages, and getting paid for the views.
Why the barrier is so low
Most ways to make money online have a catch you have to clear before you earn a dollar. Clipping skips almost all of them.
- No audience needed. Anyone with a public TikTok, Instagram or YouTube account can join, and you do not need a big following to start.
- No content to invent. Brands, artists and studios hand you the footage in a clip bank. Your job is to find the moment and cut it.
- No startup cost. A phone and a free editing app are enough. Many clippers edit in CapCut.
- No pitching or invoices. Campaigns go live in our Discord, you pick the ones you like, and you get paid automatically when they end.
- No boss or schedule. Post when you want, as much as you want.
How the money works
Each campaign pays a rate per 1,000 verified views on approved clips. Live campaigns typically pay $1 to $1.50 per 1,000 views, and some pay up to $2. A clip that hits 100,000 views at $1.50 is $150. When a campaign ends, your earnings go to PayPal in the next weekly payment round.
It scales with skill. Top clippers have earned more than $8,000 in a single week, and some have earned six figures overall. Across the platform, clippers have been paid more than $4 million so far for more than 530,000 approved clips.
What you actually need
- 1A public TikTok, Instagram or YouTube page, ideally around one niche like memes, sports, gaming, movies or music.
- 2A phone with an editing app.
- 3A PayPal account that can receive payments where you live.
- 4An eye for the two seconds that make people stop scrolling.
Why it is more than a side hustle
Clipping teaches the skills the whole internet runs on now: finding a hook, editing for retention, reading what an algorithm rewards and growing a page. Those skills carry over to running your own channel, editing for creators or working in social media. Plenty of clippers start for the money and stay because they turn out to be good at it.
